distractions

Hi everyone,
Did anyone get distracted in class today? Stinks huh? Ya know what doesn't stink though? Getting distracted like I did during my Natural Resource Management class on Tuesday (i think it was Tuesday). My attention was wondering because there was a earthquake that rocked my back and forth in my chair a couple times! And then I was distracted later when an awesome 2 foot long iguana started walking around about 10 feet from me!
This country is so cool!

By the way the earthquake did no damage here, I think maybe a couple houses fell down near the center of the quake, but I am not quite sure about any details since I can't easily follow the news here. I can only really look at the pictures in the newspaper here since it is all in spanish. Although let's be honest I only look at the pictures in english newspapers too!

Monkeys

Hola!

I saw monkeys today! We were sitting there eating breakfast and then we looked out the window and CHECK IT OUT there are Monkeys swinging around the trees! There were 6 white faced monkeys. The oldest male had a mean ole scowl on his face, but the rest looked friendly enough. there might be one that I can train up to be my butler after all. I just have to catch one first. I went out with some food to try and tempt them into coming closer. but they didnt pay attention to me enough- they were too busy watching all the kids inside watching them. I ran back to get a camera but was too slow. I am excited that we saw them around our center though because before that we hadn't caught a glimpse of them yet. There is a rumor around our neighborhood that one of the neighbors poisoned the troop of monkeys because they were a nuisance. Whatever they are so cool. I guess they steal stuff, even going into people's houses to grab things, and make a lot of noise. But that means that our local troop of 15-20 is now down to about 6. Bummer.

I am still having a great time. My ankle is almost all the way healthy. I still love the food. I havent even gotten sick of rice and beans yet (literally every meal).

Loving life without a care in the world,

jungles and ankles

Hey Everybody<

So i had my first jungle trip this weekend. We went over to thecarribean coast where it rained and raind and never stopped. We hikethrough a legit rain forest though (through the rain). And we stayedway up on this big hill (had to walk the last half mile because thebus and vans got stuck!) Unfortunately i sprained my ankle the other day at the soccer game so i limped though the first hike and then had to sit out thenext day's hike. But it was an incredibly fun time anyways. all mywaterproof stuff held up very nicely.

Not many animals though becauseof the rain. we did see a fer de lance- which is the local superlethal poisonous snake. My teacher pulled it's tail so that we couldall see it before he slithered away (it was just a baby one- but fuckthat they baby ones are even scarier becuase they can't control theirvenom- and also fuck that it is a snake!) We trapped some birds inthe morning and trapped some very cool bats at night and checked thoseout. The bat's wings were so so soft. so were their fur actually.Maybe bats can be cute after all!

I went to the ER on our way back home though just to get an X ray onmy ankle. I started the doctor visit off with the words "estas feo"when really i meant esta feo. (Pool party just came on and it is agreat song thanks!!) So instead of saying "it is ugly" reffering to myankle- i said you are ugly to the doctor. Oh man. So after that wewere awkward. When the xray come out he said that the bone wasntbroken good news. But then he said and then the girl with mytranslated that my ligaments were broken. BAD NEWS! I was upset, bummed, scared. and very confused on why they werent freaking outeither. they were like "estara bien en diez dias" and i was like Ineed surgery this is bad! But then after much confusion i figured outthat in spanish is something is wrong they said broken, so even if itis strained it is broken. good golly. ER's in different languagesand different countries are very LOL.

Love,
Brian
